Done Watches Unveils the Mechanica Chrono "Nine in Ten" Skeletonized Chronograph
Done Watches introduces its latest creation, the Mechanica Chrono Nine in Ten, a sophisticated skeletonized chronograph that marks a decade of innovation for the brand. Founded by Thierry Clottu, a seasoned watchmaking expert from Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the company's journey began with a successful Kickstarter campaign and has since evolved into a testament to Clottu's lifelong passion for horology. This new timepiece, representing the ninth major project in ten years, is a tribute to his enduring dream and a message of ambition to his daughters.
Introducing the Mechanica Chrono Nine in Ten: A Blend of Heritage and Innovation
The Mechanica Chrono Nine in Ten draws inspiration from classic vintage chronographs, evident in its distinct dial configuration, sleek rectangular push-pieces, and a "glass box" style crystal. However, Clottu's extensive background in product development shines through in the modern twists integrated into its design. The watch's most striking feature is its open-worked aesthetic, achieved with a transparent sapphire dial that proudly displays the brand's logo and counter rings. This ingenious construction provides a captivating view of the intricate movement, including a skeletonized date wheel. Enhanced legibility is ensured by BGW9 Super-LumiNova, particularly on the date disc at 6 o'clock, which is tinted in ruthenium and features a luminous appliqué for clear date indication.
Encased in a 40mm stainless steel body, the watch masterfully combines classic proportions with contemporary design elements. A significant challenge in creating such a movement often lies in maintaining a slender profile. Clottu meticulously balanced the watch's dimensions, resulting in a visually slim and comfortable-to-wear timepiece. This is aided by two domed, box-shaped sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coatings on both sides, contributing to an overall thickness of just 9.25mm without the crystals and a lug-to-lug length under 49mm. The watch's reverse side reveals a four-screw secured case back, allowing a detailed appreciation of the chronograph movement. This automatic column-wheel chronograph, a customized La Joux-Perret L11 (an advanced alternative to the Valjoux 7750), is semi-skeletonized specifically for Done Watches. Operating at 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), it offers a substantial 60-hour power reserve and is adorned with elegant anthracite/ruthenium finishes and Geneva stripes.
The Done Mechanica Chrono Nine in Ten is offered with an FKM rubber strap, complete with quick-release spring bars, and a metal bracelet option is also available. Priced at CHF 4,616 excluding taxes, it is currently available for pre-order at a special discounted rate of CHF 3,691 (excluding taxes) until late December. Deliveries are anticipated in mid-April 2026.
The launch of the Mechanica Chrono Nine in Ten by Done Watches provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of independent watchmaking, where passion and expertise converge to create exceptional timepieces. It underscores the importance of a clear vision and meticulous craftsmanship in achieving horological excellence. For enthusiasts and collectors alike, it highlights how smaller brands can push boundaries, offering unique designs and technical innovations that stand out in a competitive market. This release not only celebrates a significant milestone for Thierry Clottu's brand but also reinforces the idea that true artistry in watchmaking is born from dedication and a relentless pursuit of dreams.
