Raymond Weil's Toccata Heritage: A Playful Collaboration with seconde/seconde/
In an exciting fusion of traditional watchmaking and modern design, Raymond Weil has unveiled a new limited edition timepiece, the Toccata Heritage x seconde/seconde/. This collaboration with innovative French designer Romaric André, known for his brand seconde/seconde/, brings a fresh, playful perspective to the classic dress watch. Inspired by the childhood game "Simon Says," this watch encourages wearers to engage with horological etiquette in a lighthearted manner, making it a distinctive piece as Raymond Weil approaches its 60th anniversary.
The Toccata Heritage x seconde/seconde/ features a sleek 37.7 × 32.5 mm stainless-steel case, remarkably thin at just 6.95 mm. Its distinctive oval shape pays homage to a design first introduced by the brand's founder, Raymond Weil, four decades ago, characterized by its slender profile and gently curved edges. Under the leadership of CEO Elie Bernheim, the Toccata collection has been revitalized, preserving its timeless appeal while integrating contemporary elements. The partnership with seconde/seconde/ exemplifies this ethos, infusing the watch with a sense of fun and subtly challenging conventional dress watch aesthetics through its unique dial design.
The watch's grey dial is thoughtfully divided into two distinct halves. The left side presents a matte, opaline finish with translucent indices, creating an almost ethereal, veiled effect. This design choice cleverly references the way a shirt cuff typically covers a portion of a dress watch. A vibrant yellow inscription at 9 o'clock playfully states, "Dress shirt cuff should cover at least half of the watch." In contrast, the right side of the dial features a sophisticated anthracite sunburst pattern and a polished minute track, maintaining a touch of classic refinement. Further adding to its charm, all dial inscriptions, including "Swiss Made," are vertically aligned, offering humorous style directives that subtly question traditional watch-wearing norms.
The playful narrative extends to the caseback, which is mostly enclosed but includes a small sapphire window. This aperture provides a glimpse of the hand-wound RW4100 caliber, revealing a sunburst-decorated component and a blued screw, highlighting the brand's commitment to traditional finishing techniques. Encircling this window is an engraved directive from Romaric André himself, adding a personal and humorous touch to the watch.
The RW4100 movement, built upon a Sellita architecture, boasts a power reserve of 45 hours when fully wound, ensuring reliable performance. This limited edition Toccata Heritage x seconde/seconde/ is available for $2,075, offering a unique blend of horological craftsmanship, historical homage, and a touch of modern wit for discerning collectors.
