Oris ProPilot X Gonzo Edition: A Tribute to The Great Gonzo's Daring Spirit

September 02

Oris has recently launched a timepiece that pays homage to the legendary Muppet character, The Great Gonzo. This new offering, the Oris ProPilot X Gonzo Edition, is a vibrant and audacious watch designed to capture the essence of Gonzo's boundary-pushing personality. Following the releases inspired by Kermit and Miss Piggy, this latest creation stands out as the most unconventional yet, perfectly aligning with its eccentric muse.

The ProPilot X Gonzo Edition is a 44mm diameter watch, boasting a case crafted from Grade 2 titanium, ensuring both durability and a lightweight feel. The bezel, made from slightly harder Grade 5 titanium, adds to its robust construction. With a thickness of 12.5mm and a lug-to-lug measurement of 50mm, the watch is designed for a prominent wrist presence. It features a screw-down crown protected by guards on the right side of the case, contributing to its impressive 100-meter water resistance. However, the most captivating aspect of this timepiece is undoubtedly its colorful, skeletonized dial.

The dial is a masterpiece of design, featuring a striking gradient of blue, red, and yellow, mirroring Gonzo's flamboyant attire. Two distinctive elements further enhance its connection to the character: a red chili-shaped power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock, a nod to Gonzo's affinity for spicy fashion, and a laser-engraved image of Gonzo's face on the mainspring. While not themed, the sub-seconds register positioned between 7 and 8 o'clock provides an additional touch of detail.

Powered by the in-house developed Oris caliber 115, the movement is visible through a screw-in titanium and sapphire case back. This hand-wound movement offers an impressive 10-day (240-hour) power reserve, driven by a 1.2-meter long mainspring. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz) and containing 38 jewels, the caliber 115 showcases Oris's commitment to mechanical excellence. The watch is presented in a special wooden box, underscoring its unique and collectible nature.

This timepiece transcends mere functionality, embodying a spirit of daring and individuality. It challenges wearers to embrace a style that is as bold and fearless as The Great Gonzo himself. The combination of its robust build, lightweight materials, and striking aesthetic makes it more than just an accessory; it's a statement piece for those who dare to stand out. Oris has produced this edition for a limited period, encouraging enthusiasts to act decisively, much like Gonzo's spontaneous stunts.
