Daniel Roth Unveils Elegant Extra Plat Rose Gold with Gilt Dial

September 02

Enthusiasts of fine horology are keenly observing the resurgence of Daniel Roth, a brand that has garnered significant attention, particularly with its latest offering. The new Daniel Roth Extra Plat, presented in exquisite rose gold with a black gilt dial, is creating a stir. Unlike many contemporary timepieces that merely simulate a gilt appearance with gold-toned accents, this model features a genuine gilt dial. This intricate process involves applying a protective lacquer to the desired markings on the dial blank, followed by a galvanic black coating. Once the lacquer is removed, the untouched base metal reveals the golden text, offering an authentic and refined aesthetic.

The creation of this dial is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. Beginning with a solid 5N rose gold blank, the dial undergoes hand-operated engine-turning on a rose lathe to achieve the distinctive guilloché patterns across its various sections, a hallmark of Daniel Roth's design. Subsequently, all the intricate markings, including the Roman numerals, brand logo, and dial number, are pad-printed with a pink varnish to safeguard them during the electroplating process. After the varnish is meticulously removed, the underlying gold layer is unveiled. Encased in a compact 38.6mm diameter and remarkably slender 7.7mm thick 5N rose gold case, the watch emerges as an elegant dress timepiece with a black dial, featuring subtle golden details that captivate the wearer.

Powering this exquisite watch is the Calibre DR002, an ultra-thin, time-only movement produced by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. This movement boasts a power reserve of 65 hours and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (VpH). The finishing of the movement, consistent with other models utilizing this caliber, is impeccable, maintaining visual appeal through its artfully shaped bridges and anglage. Priced at CHF 55,000, this new Daniel Roth Extra Plat is a distinguished addition to the brand's collection, reflecting a commitment to solid, well-executed high-end watchmaking.

The debut of the Daniel Roth Extra Plat with its gilt dial signifies a remarkable achievement in precision and aesthetic appeal. This watch not only honors traditional watchmaking techniques but also pushes the boundaries of design, embodying a legacy of enduring elegance and meticulous artistry that resonates deeply within the horological world.
