Exploring Newport: The Essence of Audrain Motor Week
Last month, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the world of luxury automobiles and exquisite timepieces at the Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week in Newport, Rhode Island. As a proud sponsor, A. Lange & Söhne anchored a series of events that draw enthusiasts and collectors alike. Since its inception in 2019, this annual gathering has become a cornerstone for automotive aficionados, featuring an array of owner meetings, educational seminars, and even a historic car auction. However, the crown jewels of the weekend remain the majestic Tour d'Elegance and the grand Concours d'Elegance. While I previously shared a visual diary of the Concours d'Elegance, showcasing an impressive collection of vintage cars and an equally stunning display of Lange watches, today's narrative shifts to the dynamic Tour d'Elegance.
A Glimpse into the Tour d'Elegance Spectacle
Annually, over a hundred of the world's most breathtaking vehicles parade through Newport's picturesque routes. The Tour d'Elegance initiates at Second Beach, meanders along the iconic Ocean Drive, and culminates in a magnificent finish on Bellevue Avenue, where the public eagerly interacts with drivers and owners. To my delightful surprise, I was appointed navigator for Wilhelm Schmid, the CEO of A. Lange & Söhne, for this very drive. On a crisp Saturday morning, we embarked in a resplendent Champagne Yellow 1963 Porsche 356B Cabriolet, engaging in an engaging dialogue about Lange's legacy, the allure of classic cars, and more, as the refreshing autumn breeze swept across the coast.
