Cockpit Arts Hosts Summer Open Studios and 40th Anniversary Celebrations in London
Cockpit Arts is set to host its highly anticipated Summer Open Studios over two weekends in June 2026. This popular event offers a distinctive opportunity for the public to engage with and acquire pieces directly from some of the UK's most distinguished artist-makers. Attendees can immerse themselves in the world of contemporary craft, exploring the creative processes behind various works and meeting the talented individuals who produce them. This celebration of artistry is an ideal occasion to find unique gifts for special occasions like Father's Day or summer weddings, while also discovering emerging talents in the craft sector.
A significant highlight of this year's Open Studios is a special auction commemorating Cockpit's 40th Anniversary. Forty exceptional craft pieces, all created by Cockpit artists, will be available for bidding from June 4th to June 14th. The proceeds generated from this auction will directly benefit Cockpit and its resident makers, fostering continued innovation and support within the craft community. Additionally, visitors will have the chance to see a new collection of portraits featuring Cockpit makers. These portraits, captured by the acclaimed photographer Alun Callender, are part of the 40th-anniversary celebrations. A comprehensive display of over 50 such portraits will be exhibited at Cockpit Bloomsbury during London Craft Week (May 11-12, 2026), with a curated selection also forming part of the Summer Open Studios exhibition.
This event underscores the enduring value of craftsmanship and the vibrant artistic community thriving in London. By providing a platform for artists to connect with the public and offering direct support through initiatives like the anniversary auction, Cockpit Arts continues to champion and nurture creative talent. The convergence of art, commerce, and community at the Summer Open Studios fosters an environment where creativity flourishes and artistic endeavors are recognized and sustained.
