Zeitwinkel Enhances its Signature 082° Central Second Timepiece

December 18

Zeitwinkel, an independent horological atelier rooted in Saint-Imier, has consistently dedicated over fifteen years to the meticulous creation of mechanical timepieces that embody precision, clear aesthetics, and lasting performance. Since its inception in 2006, the brand has meticulously developed its movements in-house, assembling each watch by hand in limited quantities. Across its distinguished collections, including the 273° with its prominent date display, the 188° featuring a sub-seconds dial, and the recently introduced 240° sports model, Zeitwinkel showcases exceptional artistry with a tastefully understated decorative approach. The Zeitwinkel 082° Central Second, initially launched in 2009, stands as the purest embodiment of the brand's core philosophy. Now, through a thoughtful redesign, the new 082° preserves the spirit of its predecessor while boasting a more sophisticated case, heightened detail, and a modernized dial, all while maintaining the robust ZW0102 caliber.

The updated Zeitwinkel 082° is offered in two sizes, 39mm and 42.5mm, both crafted from a premium, corrosion-resistant stainless steel alloy that ensures a pleasant tactile experience. Each case comprises 26 distinct components, individually assembled by hand through more than 80 intricate stages. The interplay of brushed and polished surfaces bestows a harmonious and technically refined appearance upon the watch. A slightly domed sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface, protects the dial, while a sapphire display back offers a glimpse into the movement's mechanics. A screw-down crown, equipped with a dual O-ring system, provides a water resistance of 50 meters. Despite its robust construction, the case remains comfortable to wear, attributed to its ergonomically curved lugs and a moderate thickness of 11.6mm for the 39mm variant and 11.7mm for the 42.5mm model, with lug-to-lug measurements of 47.5mm and 52mm, respectively.

Upon initial inspection, the dial presents a facade of simplicity, yet Zeitwinkel's design philosophy thrives on intricate layering and textural depth. Each dial is meticulously constructed from three distinct elements: a central plate adorned with a subtle motif inspired by the brand's emblem, a broad ring dedicated to the hour markers featuring a delicate circular brushed finish, and an external minute track engineered for precise time-reading. The dials are available in either a galvanised Silver or Black Or finish, ensuring enduring color stability. An alternative version features a silver central section elegantly framed by a light blue chapter ring, offering a more relaxed aesthetic. Applied numerals and indices introduce a three-dimensional quality, while the diamond-cut hands are expertly angled to capture light cleanly on one side only. The central seconds hand is finished in polished steel or thermally blued, harmonizing with the chosen dial color. Powering the Zeitwinkel 082° series is the brand's in-house developed calibre ZW0102, an automatic movement meticulously designed and manufactured in Saint-Imier. This movement is distinguished by its robust three-quarter plate, crafted from untreated German silver (maillechort), incorporating 30 jewels. It features a bi-directional winding rotor, providing a generous 72-hour power reserve. Regulated in five positions to guarantee exceptional precision, the calibre operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. All components receive meticulous hand-finishing, including Côtes de Genève on the bridges, perlage on the baseplate, polished bevels, and chamfered and polished screws. For the wrist, clients have the option of a hand-stitched calfskin strap with an embossed alligator texture or a natural caoutchouc rubber strap. The leather option is vegetable-tanned and hypoallergenic, while the rubber strap boasts UV resistance and tear-proof durability. Both strap options are secured by a stainless-steel folding clasp, engraved with the distinguished Zeitwinkel logo. The Zeitwinkel 082° is available by special order, with prices set at CHF 16,107 (inclusive of VAT) or CHF 14,900 (exclusive of VAT). For those who prefer a variation without the central seconds hand, the Zeitwinkel 312° offers identical features, movement, and pricing. Further details can be found on Zeitwinkel's official website.
