Watches and Wonders: Sustaining Value Amidst Growth
Watches and Wonders: Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow, Affordably.
Navigating Growth and Sustaining Value in the Watch Industry
Leaders of the world's most significant luxury watch trade exhibition, Watches and Wonders, report that a record turnout of exhibitors and attendees this year has enabled the event to maintain consistent square meter fees for exhibitors, a rate unchanged for the past five years.
Stability Amidst Rising Industry Costs
Cyrille Vigneron, Chairman of the Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation, the non-profit organization behind the annual retail trade fair, noted the consistent pricing despite various economic pressures. Matthieu Humair, the CEO, highlighted the record 65 brands participating in 2026, including Audemars Piguet, and an expected increase in visitors from 55,000 in 2025 to 60,000 in 2026.
Mitigating Economic Pressures for Exhibitors
Despite escalating gold prices and trade costs, including U.S. tariffs, which have led to multiple price hikes across the watchmaking industry, Watches and Wonders has managed to keep exhibitor costs steady. This stability is credited to the foundation's revenue growth through expansion and leveraging economies of scale. Collaborations with local hotels have also helped manage event costs, ensuring the financial viability of this week-long horological showcase.
Expanding Reach and Economic Impact
The annual fair significantly boosts Geneva's economy, with public-facing events further cementing the city's role as a global watchmaking hub. The event generates approximately 50,000 hotel nights in the region. Watches and Wonders continues to grow, potentially accommodating up to 100 brands. Major participants include Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Richemont brands like Cartier and IWC, alongside LVMH brands, Swiss independents, and international players.
Engaging the Entire Watchmaking Community
While the Swatch Group and Breitling remain notable non-participants, Watches and Wonders executives express an open invitation for them to join. This underscores the foundation's goal of fostering a comprehensive platform for the watchmaking world, offering a valuable experience for brands of all sizes.
