Roger Dubuis Unveils the 2026 Excalibur Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar
Last year, Roger Dubuis delighted enthusiasts with the Hommage La Placide, a watch that resurrected the brand founder's esteemed bi-retrograde perpetual calendar module from 1999. Now, for 2026, the brand presents a daring evolution of this complication within the Excalibur collection, showcasing a significantly enhanced movement and a striking contemporary design. This new model is a testament to Roger Dubuis's commitment to combining traditional watchmaking with cutting-edge aesthetics.
The new Excalibur Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar features a 40mm x 12.25mm pink gold case that, despite its relatively compact size, projects a powerful and impactful visual presence, aligning with the brand's 'Hyper Horology' ethos. Its intricate, multi-layered openworked dial, featuring 'Astral Blue' mother-of-pearl accents, displays the signature retrograde day and date indicators on elegant crescent-shaped scales, revealing glimpses of the meticulously finished skeletonised movement. A notable addition is the new high-precision astronomical moon phase display at 6 o'clock, crafted from blue aventurine with a laser-engraved pink gold moon, accurate for 122 years before needing adjustment. The heart of this timepiece is the upgraded RD850 calibre, composed of 435 components, which offers a 60-hour power reserve and has earned the prestigious Poinçon de Genève certification for its superior craftsmanship and performance.
The Excalibur Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar is a limited edition of 188 pieces, embodying the fusion of historical horological artistry and modern avant-garde design. This timepiece not only celebrates the legacy of Mr. Dubuis's intricate complications but also pushes the boundaries of watchmaking, offering a profound appreciation for precision engineering and artistic expression. It stands as a symbol of relentless innovation and a pursuit of excellence, inspiring us to embrace bold creativity in all endeavors.
