Rado Unveils Vibrant DiaStar Original Skeleton Summer Editions
Rado continues to revitalize its acclaimed DiaStar Original Skeleton series by introducing three vibrant limited edition watches. These new additions infuse the brand's recognizable design with a seasonal touch, showcasing rich blue, green, and red hues. Building upon the success of prior skeletonized DiaStar models, including the original steel variant and the striking gold-toned edition from 2025, these releases highlight a unique blend of futuristic aesthetics, advanced materials, and intricate openworked movements.
First launched in 1962, the DiaStar gained recognition as the world's first scratch-resistant watch, characterized by its distinctive oval, helmet-shaped case and unconventional style. The bold design persists, now enhanced with contemporary materials and a meticulously skeletonized movement. Each of the three new DiaStar Original Skeleton Limited Editions maintains a consistent and compact profile, measuring 38mm in width, 45mm in length, and 11.9mm in thickness. The prominent convex bezel is crafted from Ceramos, Rado's proprietary composite material that marries ceramic's durability with metallic luster. The blue and red versions feature a polished Ceramos bezel with a radial brushed finish, complemented by stainless steel middle cases and casebacks. In contrast, the green edition adopts a warmer appeal with a yellow-gold-colored PVD-coated Ceramos bezel and harmonizing PVD-coated steel components. A faceted sapphire crystal, a hallmark of the DiaStar design, adorns the dial, while a sapphire display back offers a glimpse into the intricate movement. These timepieces are also water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The new Rado DiaStar Original Skeleton collection is distinguished by its bold color palette, which artfully frames the intricate skeletonized calibre. Each watch features a 'floating index' design and the signature moving anchor logo. The blue model showcases a matching blue dial ring and rubber strap, with rhodium-toned hands and indices accented by yellow Super-LumiNova. The green variant pairs a green dial and strap with gold-toned hands and markers featuring red lume. The third option presents a red dial and strap, with rhodium-toned hands and indices illuminated by green Super-LumiNova. All three models are powered by the automatic calibre R808, built on the familiar ETA architecture found in previous DiaStar Skeleton editions. This movement boasts 25 jewels, a Nivachron hairspring, and delivers an impressive 80-hour power reserve. Operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, the calibre is precisely regulated in up to five positions, surpassing standard requirements to ensure exceptional accuracy. Each watch comes with a color-coordinated rubber strap equipped with Rado's EasyClip system for effortless changes, along with a stainless steel pin buckle that matches the case's finish. These Rado DiaStar Original Skeleton Summer Editions are individually limited to 555 pieces, with the unique limitation number elegantly engraved on the caseback. The blue and red editions are priced at EUR 2,500, while the green model with its gold-colored PVD treatment retails for EUR 2,750.
These limited-edition timepieces from Rado exemplify the fusion of enduring heritage with modern innovation. By embracing vibrant colors and advanced materials, Rado not only celebrates its rich past but also pushes the boundaries of watchmaking, inviting enthusiasts to appreciate the artistry and precision that define each creation. The dedication to meticulous craftsmanship and aesthetic refinement inspires a sense of joy and appreciation for the finer things in life, reflecting a commitment to excellence and a forward-looking vision.
