Pharrell Williams' digital auction house, Joopiter, recently unveiled its dedicated watch division, initiating its launch with the 'Keeping Measure: Watches & Timepieces' sale. This auction, which wraps up in mid-August, represents a significant step for the platform, as it now features a specialized department and a dedicated head for this category, a first since its inception. While watches have been part of previous sales, this new structure underscores Joopiter's commitment to the horology market.

Among the standout items in the inaugural watch auction is a rare Omega Speedmaster, famously associated with astronaut Alan Bean, the fourth individual to journey across the lunar surface. Only 30 units of this particular model were ever crafted following the initial moon landing, primarily distributed to prominent figures such as then-President Richard Nixon, Vice President Spiro Agnew, and astronauts from esteemed space missions. The watch on offer, number 26, bears a special engraving commemorating Bean's leadership during the 1973 Skylab mission. Its estimated value ranges from $250,000 to $350,000, with bidding commencing at $230,000.

Further enriching the collection are two additional noteworthy timepieces. One is a Ulysse Nardin watch from approximately 1960, adorned with an 18k gold woven bracelet meticulously crafted by Gay Frères. This independent Swiss workshop was renowned for supplying bracelets to prestigious brands like Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin before ceasing independent production. This piece is projected to fetch between $15,000 and $25,000. Another highlight is the HYT Moon Runner Red Magma from 2022, a limited-edition model that pioneeringly combines HYT's distinctive liquid-time fluidic hour display with a moon phase complication, estimated at $50,000 to $70,000.

Nate Borgelt, the newly appointed head of Joopiter's watch department, expressed enthusiasm for the diverse selection, stating that the sale aims to introduce a wide array of pieces from both well-known manufacturers and niche independent brands to Joopiter's clientele. He emphasized the sale's objective to captivate both seasoned horology enthusiasts and those new to watch collecting, showcasing the vast spectrum of watch collecting and varying tastes.
