Grand Seiko Unveils Four New Hi-Beat Models in Enhanced Evolution 9 Collection
Grand Seiko has recently expanded its esteemed Evolution 9 collection with the introduction of four distinct Hi-Beat models. These new releases, which include various dial textures and advanced bracelet features, reinforce the brand's position in the luxury watch market. The timepieces integrate the acclaimed 9SA5 automatic movement, known for its high frequency and extended power reserve, making them a significant addition to Grand Seiko's core offerings.
Following closely on the heels of Watches and Wonders 2026, Grand Seiko is making a substantial impact with these new additions to its Evolution 9 series. This collection is central to the brand's identity, bridging the gap between sporty and dressy timepieces, making them versatile for everyday wear. The models, particularly those featuring nature-inspired dial patterns such as the White Birch, have garnered considerable popularity. Therefore, the brand's continued refinement of these offerings is a strategic move to meet consumer demand and enhance its catalog.
The latest Evolution 9 Collection Hi-Beat models are scheduled for release in October 2026. While the case designs and certain dial aesthetics remain consistent with previous iterations, there are notable enhancements. The watches are crafted from either Ever-Brilliant Steel or High-Intensity Titanium, with specific dial colors exclusively available in one material. Each model maintains a standardized 40mm diameter and a slim 11.7mm thickness, ensuring a comfortable and elegant fit.
A key enhancement across all four models is the upgraded bracelet, which now features a more pronounced taper towards the clasp. Furthermore, the push-button folding clasps are equipped with a tool-free micro-adjustment mechanism, offering three increments with 2mm spacing for optimal comfort. Each watch also includes a box-type sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, a screw-in display case back, a screw-down crown, and a water resistance rating of 10 bar.
Powering these new Hi-Beat models is the robust 9SA5 automatic movement, first unveiled in 2020. This movement boasts a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5Hz) and an impressive 80-hour power reserve. Its accuracy is also exceptional, rated at +5 to -3 seconds per day. The collection comprises four new references, each showcasing unique characteristics.
The SLGH029, featuring a striking black dial with a Black Birch pattern, is presented in a 40mm High-Intensity Titanium case and matching bracelet. This model stands out with its chamfered, polished hands, diamond-cut applied indexes, and a distinctive white-on-black date wheel at 3 o’clock, encased in a polished metal frame.
The White Birch model, reference SLGH031, continues to be a highlight of the collection. Crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, this 40mm timepiece features a captivating blued central seconds hand. Its dial texture, inspired by the Shizukuishi forests, contrasts with the Shinshu-inspired U.F.A. Spring Drive models, providing a clear distinction within Grand Seiko's diverse range.
The Green Birch SLBGH033, rendered in steel, aims to evoke the image of white birch forests bathed in sunlight. This watch transitions from vibrant brilliance to dark mystery depending on the light, creating a visually dynamic and captivating dial.
Completing the automatic Evolution 9 lineup is the SLGH035, a cheerfully colored piece inspired by the Iwai River in Iwate Prefecture. Its light blue dial, a hue typically reserved for smaller Grand Seiko models, is perfectly executed here, promising to be a popular choice among enthusiasts.
The dial of the SLGH035 is distinct within the collection, with fragmented patterns that mirror the rock formations of the surrounding valley, making it another truly eye-catching design.
Regarding pricing, the titanium SLGH029 is positioned at €11,700, aligning with its Spring Drive counterpart. The steel versions, SLGH031, SLGH033, and SLGH035, are priced slightly lower at €10,400. These prices place the new models in a competitive segment, comparable to high-end offerings from other luxury brands like Rolex, a territory Grand Seiko is well-versed in navigating.
These four additions to the Evolution 9 Hi-Beat series exemplify Grand Seiko's commitment to excellence. The watches combine refined aesthetics with robust functionality, featuring striking dials and improved bracelet comfort. While the designs are familiar, the diverse color palette and enhanced bracelet features are expected to appeal to a broad audience seeking a versatile and high-performance timepiece. While some might desire smaller options, these releases signify a strong evolution for the brand, offering exceptional value and craftsmanship.
