Amida Digitrend OSII Black: A Darker Evolution of a 1970s Icon

June 23
Amida continues its journey of reviving an iconic 1970s design with the introduction of the Digitrend OSII Black. This latest iteration builds upon the distinctive features of its predecessors, offering a darker aesthetic and a fully luminous display, enhancing both its visual appeal and functionality.

Unveiling the Luminous Darkness: Amida's Latest Timepiece Evolution

The Resurgence of a Retro-Futuristic Timepiece

Amida's return in 2024 brought back a truly unique watch design from the 1970s: the Digitrend. Originally launched in 1976, this timepiece stood out with its horizontal digital display, viewed through a prism, giving it a futuristic LED-watch aesthetic. The Open Sapphire edition in 2025 faithfully revived this concept, showcasing much of the movement through a transparent sapphire structure. Now, for 2026, Amida introduces the Digitrend OSII Black, a darker and more advanced interpretation.

Design Enhancements and Case Construction

The OSII Black maintains the striking silhouette of its predecessors. The compact dimensions of 39.6mm by 39mm, with a thickness of 15.6mm, ensure comfortable wear while retaining its signature wedge-shaped profile. Unlike the previous Open Sapphire edition with its display caseback, this new model features a solid caseback secured by four screws, contributing to its 50-meter water resistance.

The Transparent Sapphire and Internal Architecture

A prominent feature of the Digitrend OSII Black is its expansive transparent sapphire top. This element allows ample light to penetrate, revealing the complex internal display components from various angles. Crafted from a single block, the sapphire not only provides protection but also acts as a key design element. To complement this transparency, Amida has reimagined the internal construction beneath the sapphire, incorporating a new black-coated steel framework around the proprietary jumping-hour module. This results in a more structured and technical visual appeal.

Innovation in Luminous Display Technology

A significant upgrade in the OSII Black is its enhanced luminous display. The improved light transmission through the sapphire hood ensures that the jumping-hour and scrolling-minute display are fully charged and easily visible in dark environments. BGW9 Super-LumiNova illuminates the numerals, while additional luminous accents on the internal framework create what the brand describes as a distinct “nocturnal form.” Notably, the Amida logo has been relocated from the top plate, further emphasizing the luminous display.

Mechanism and Performance

The watch utilizes Amida's proprietary Light Reflecting Display (LRD) system. This system projects jumping hours and scrolling minutes from horizontal discs, which are then read through an optical prism located at the front of the case. Powering this intricate mechanism is an in-house developed module, mounted on a Soprod Newton P024 automatic movement. This movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a reliable 38-hour power reserve.

Availability and Pricing Details

The Digitrend OSII Black is presented with a black Alcantara strap featuring an orange calfskin lining and quick-release spring bars. An integrated steel bracelet is also available as an alternative option. This timepiece is a limited edition, with only 150 pieces available. It is priced at CHF 5,150 when purchased with a strap and CHF 5,500 with the bracelet, excluding taxes. Further details and ordering information can be found on Amida's official websit
