Cleguer Unveils the 'Inspiration One' Featuring a Revolutionary "Innate" Escapement
Cleguer Horology is making its grand entrance into the watchmaking world with the 'Inspiration One,' a timepiece that is as technically ambitious as it is visually captivating. This debut watch is a testament to the brand's commitment to precision chronometry and sophisticated movement architecture. At its heart lies a groundbreaking "innate escapement," a reinterpretation of traditional designs aimed at optimizing performance and reliability. This limited-edition series, beginning with a titanium model, showcases Cleguer's innovative spirit and sets a high bar for future horological creations.
The 'Inspiration One' is distinguished by its innovative "innate escapement," which represents a significant advancement in horological engineering. Founder Mathieu Cleguer has ingeniously merged the efficiency of a natural escapement with the self-starting capability of a Fasoldt escapement. This hybrid design features dual escape wheels and a tangential impulse delivered via a lever, ensuring enhanced reliability without compromising the natural escapement's inherent accuracy. This design addresses a critical limitation of traditional natural escapements, making the 'Inspiration One' exceptionally suitable for everyday wear.
Beyond its innovative escapement, the 'Inspiration One' boasts a meticulously crafted movement architecture. The watch, measuring 38.5mm in diameter and 12mm in thickness, employs a layered construction that creates an impressive sense of depth. Key components, such as the prominent 12.9mm balance wheel, the unique innate escapement, and the dial-side power reserve indicator, are thoughtfully displayed. On the reverse, the gear train, ratchet-click system, and Maltese cross stopwork are visible, showcasing the intricate mechanics within. The mainplate and bridges, made from nickel silver with champagne and rhodium finishes, blend traditional materials with a modern aesthetic.
A notable feature of the 'Inspiration One' is its integrated stopwork mechanism, positioned atop the ratchet-click system. This mechanism precisely limits the power reserve to 36 hours. While seemingly restrictive, this design choice is deliberate, aiming to utilize only the most stable portion of the mainspring's torque. By doing so, Cleguer ensures superior chronometric stability and consistent performance, highlighting a dedication to precision that goes beyond mere power reserve duration.
Aesthetically, the 'Inspiration One' exudes understated elegance. The dial features a decentralized champlevé Grand Feu enamel subdial for hours and minutes, subtly obscuring some of the underlying complexity while drawing attention to the elongated central seconds hand. Branding is minimal, with the brand name discreetly placed on the inner case flank and the power reserve numerals serving as a primary visual element. The watch also incorporates personal touches, such as a deep purple dial and leather strap, alongside subtle nods to Mathieu Cleguer's Breton heritage and a three-dot marker at 12 o'clock, symbolizing the barrel, dial, and balance.
Cleguer Horology plans to produce the 'Inspiration One' in small batches, with only 12 pieces per case material. The initial release, crafted from titanium, has already been fully allocated, with deliveries expected in late 2026. Following this, a yellow gold version will be released, priced at 95,300 CHF, also in a limited run of 12 pieces. Additionally, 20 movements are reserved for bespoke commissions, offering collectors an exclusive opportunity to personalize their timepieces. The brand's thoughtful design, innovative engineering, and meticulous craftsmanship mark a significant and promising entry into the high-end watch market.
