Angelus Unveils Instrument de Mesures: A Modern Chronograph with Vintage Flair
Angelus introduces its latest creation, the Instrument de Mesures, a new chronograph that fuses classic design elements with contemporary watchmaking. This timepiece stands out with its multi-scale display, incorporating telemeter, tachymeter, and pulsometer functions, reminiscent of chronographs from the 1930s and 1940s. These early models prioritized practicality, offering essential measurement tools for various tasks.
At its heart, the Instrument de Mesures houses the manually-wound A5000 movement, developed by La Joux-Perret, a sister company to Angelus. Encased in a 39mm stainless steel body with a slim 9.25mm profile, it boasts a transparent caseback that reveals the intricate mechanics within. The watch features a single co-axial crown pusher for operating the chronograph and offers 30 meters of water resistance. With a power reserve of 42 hours and a frequency of 3Hz, it ensures reliable performance. The scales are elegantly arranged in a stacked, swirling pattern, a design choice that has long been favored in the watch industry for its clarity and aesthetic appeal, despite the complexity of integrating multiple functions. Lume is subtly applied to the hour markers, blending seamlessly with the three scales.
This new Angelus Instrument de Mesures is offered in two dial variants, black and white, each produced in a limited edition of 25 pieces, priced at CHF 18,400. Its design, inspired by vintage re-editions, is seen as a strong addition to the brand's offerings, offering a blend of historical charm and modern craftsmanship at a competitive price point. The ivory dial, in particular, is noted for its distinctive character, setting it apart from more common gilt-dial vintage chronographs.
The Angelus Instrument de Mesures is more than just a time-telling device; it is a celebration of watchmaking heritage combined with cutting-edge engineering. Its multi-functional design serves as a reminder of the enduring ingenuity and precision that define horology. Owning such a piece is an investment in both history and innovation, reflecting a passion for meticulous craftsmanship and timeless style.
