Tiffany & Co. Unveils New "Bird on a Rock" Inspired Jewelry Collections

September 02

Tiffany & Co. has commenced September with a remarkable showcase of new jewelry designs. The renowned jeweler has introduced its latest collections, which draw inspiration from the iconic "Bird on a Rock" brooch, originally created by Jean Schlumberger in 1965. These new lines are aptly named "Wings" for the fine jewelry selection and "Feathers" for the high jewelry range.

The "Wings" collection features pieces adorned with an elegant array of bird figures, echoing Schlumberger's 1950s "Flames" earrings, which were conceived to mimic solar flares. This distinctive detail is evident in the intricately textured wings of the birds throughout the collection, meticulously hand-sculpted in 18-karat gold, giving the impression of an effulgent burst. Complementing this, chevron patterns are subtly incorporated into the wingtips, body, and collar, alongside a selection of diamonds in various sizes. The "Feathers" high jewelry line, as its name suggests, is inspired by the delicate plumage found around a bird's neck. These sculptural creations required nearly three years to perfect, skillfully imitating the lightness of feathers through the strategic use of brilliant diamonds, platinum, and 18-karat gold. Additionally, the "Wings" fine jewelry collection showcases Schlumberger's fondness for combining multiple metals, presenting a series of alternating wings, each featuring three feathers, crafted from 18-karat gold and platinum. This line includes a diverse range of items such as necklaces, rings, drop earrings, bracelets, and pendants.

Schlumberger's celebrated "Bird on a Rock" design first emerged over six decades ago, born from his observations of a yellow cockatoo during his travels across Asia and the Caribbean. The original brooch depicted the avian creature, rendered in white and yellow diamonds, gracefully perched upon a cabochon lapis lazuli. Since then, Tiffany has consistently revitalized this cherished design through numerous reinterpretations over the decades. These latest collections represent another captivating chapter in the enduring narrative of the "Bird on a Rock" motif, underscoring Tiffany's commitment to artistic innovation while honoring its rich heritage. These exquisite new pieces are set to become available this week at select Tiffany retail locations, offering enthusiasts an opportunity to experience their splendor firsthand.
