The Phoenix iteration tones down the overt flamboyance of its predecessor, presenting a more understated yet equally captivating timepiece that upholds Ming's commitment to distinctive aesthetics and innovative mechanics.

Ming's journey since its inception in 2017, under the leadership of designer and photographer Ming Thein, has been characterized by a rapid and impressive expansion of its collection, boasting over 75 unique references. The introduction of the 5th generation in 2025 with the 57.04 Iris, a 'destro' monopusher chronograph known for its unconventional design and a dial that shifted colors from turquoise to purple, green, or orange, was a bold statement. Following this, the sleek 56.00 Starfield further showcased the brand's versatility by introducing their first integrated bracelet sports watch. Recognizing the significant demand for the monopusher chronograph, with the initial 100 Iris pieces quickly selling out, Ming proactively developed the Phoenix, a new interpretation that promises to appeal to a wider audience while retaining the core elements that define the series.

While the 57.04 Iris was lauded for its audacious design and vibrant, color-shifting dial, it also proved to be a divisive piece due to its pronounced visual character. The Phoenix, however, adopts a more muted approach. As Ming describes, the watch now features a "tonal structure: mostly monochromatic, whilst remaining very three-dimensional, quite graphic and with pops of colours peeking through." This strategic shift allows the watch to maintain its visual depth and intricate details without the overt, flamboyant color play of the Iris, appealing to those who prefer a more classic yet still distinctive timepiece.

Underneath its refined exterior, the Phoenix retains the technical sophistication of its predecessor. It features the same 'destro' monopusher chronograph concept, characterized by a left-positioned crown that integrates the chronograph button. The watch's case measures 40mm in diameter, 11.85mm in thickness, and has a 47.8mm lug-to-lug distance. A standout feature remains its sculptural, multi-piece stepped lugs, a modern homage to Art Deco design, requiring no fewer than nine separate components for their intricate construction. Powering the 57.04 Phoenix is the Sellita for MING Calibre SW562.M1, a specially configured variant of the renowned SW500, which itself is based on the robust Valjoux 7750 architecture. This hand-wound monopusher chronograph movement provides essential functions including hours, minutes, central chronograph seconds, and a 30-minute counter positioned at 6 o’clock, all within a clean, no-date layout. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a substantial 60-hour power reserve when fully wound. Aesthetically, the movement is enhanced with a rhodium-plated mainplate and a contrasting anthracite three-quarter plate, visible through the sapphire case back.
