Piaget Introduces New Polo Signature Date Models with Gadroon Dials

April 15

Piaget's latest expansion of its distinguished Polo Signature Date line reintroduces the iconic gadroon motif, a hallmark of the original 1979 Polo model, to the dial. Unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2026, these new timepieces seamlessly blend heritage with contemporary design, offering a choice of silver or Piaget's signature blue dials. Available in versatile 36mm and 42mm case sizes, the collection caters to diverse preferences, featuring both stainless steel and luxurious 18k pink gold options. Select models further elevate their sophistication with brilliant-cut diamonds, adorning either the indices or the bezel, or both. This release signifies a strategic move by Piaget to strengthen the aesthetic link between the modern Polo sports watch and its legendary all-gold predecessor, the Polo 79, by integrating its most recognizable design element directly onto the watch face.

The journey of the Piaget Polo watch began in 1979, conceived as a sleek, sensuous, all-gold integrated bracelet timepiece distinguished by its head-to-toe horizontal gadroons. This original creation, championed by Yves Piaget, a fourth-generation family member, rapidly ascended to cult status in the 1980s, becoming a symbol of opulence and equestrian glamour. Yves Piaget's vision transformed the brand into a prominent luxury house, leveraging its ultra-thin calibres and high-tech quartz movements to create fashionable jewelry watches. The Polo name was subsequently revived in 2016, morphing into a steel, cushion-shaped luxury sports watch, drawing inspiration from the brand's Emperador collection. While the redesigned Polo retained the general aesthetic of horizontal ridges on most of its dials, the direct connection to the Polo 79's distinctive gadroons wasn't immediately apparent until 2024. That year, Piaget consciously incorporated these specific gadroons onto the dials of its Polo Date models, bridging the gap to its celebrated ancestry.

Building on the successful 2024 introduction of the 42mm and 36mm Piaget Polo Date references, which featured prominent horizontal gadroons on beige dials, the 2026 collection brings forth an array of fresh interpretations. These new models showcase rounded, polished gadroons traversing blue or silver dials, complemented by a date aperture positioned at 6 o'clock. Both sizes are offered with or without diamond embellishments on the indices and bezel, providing a range of aesthetic choices. The 42mm versions boast Super-LumiNova on both their indices and hands for enhanced legibility, while the more compact 36mm versions feature Super-LumiNova exclusively on their indices, due to their skeletonized hands. Encased in either robust stainless steel or elegant 18k pink gold, the watches exhibit a wide bezel with a brushed finish, accentuated by a polished bevel that harmonizes with the case middle's surface.

The larger 42mm variant, measuring 9.4mm in thickness and offering 100 meters of water resistance, comes in both stainless steel and opulent 18k pink gold. Dial options include silver or blue, and consumers can choose between models with or without diamond-set bezels and indices. Powering this version is the automatic calibre 1110P, an evolution of Piaget's renowned 800P movement. This movement, with a slender profile of just 4mm, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a reliable power reserve of 50 hours. A stop-seconds mechanism ensures precise time setting, underscoring the watch's technical refinement.

For those preferring a more discreet profile, the 36mm model, with a thickness of 8.8mm and 50 meters of water resistance, is available in the same material choices of steel or 18k pink gold. It also offers silver or blue dials, alongside the option of diamond-set indices, diamond-set bezels, or a combination of both. The heart of the 36mm timepiece is Piaget’s in-house calibre 500P1. This automatic movement features a central rotor, boasts an ultra-slim height of 3.6mm, and delivers a power reserve of 40 hours, highlighting Piaget's mastery of thin watchmaking.

The latest Piaget Polo Signature Date models represent a thoughtful evolution of a classic. By reinstating the iconic gadroon pattern directly onto the dial, Piaget not only pays homage to its illustrious past but also injects new vitality into the contemporary Polo collection. The meticulous attention to detail, from the choice of materials and diamond settings to the precision of the in-house movements, underscores Piaget’s unwavering commitment to luxury watchmaking. These diverse offerings, ranging from sophisticated steel models to dazzling diamond-set gold variations, solidify the Polo Signature Date’s position as a versatile and desirable luxury sports watch. The blend of historical reverence with modern engineering ensures these timepieces will continue to captivate enthusiasts and uphold the brand's legacy of elegance and innovation.
