Natural Diamond Council Welcomes GJEPC as Member
The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) has announced the inclusion of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) into its membership, marking a significant step as GJEPC becomes the first industry entity to join under the framework of the Luanda Accord. This collaboration highlights a joint dedication to advancing the natural diamond industry, with India's pivotal role in diamond processing further strengthening this global initiative. The partnership is set to foster enhanced consumer trust, broaden educational outreach, and stimulate sustained demand for authentic diamonds.
This membership signifies a culmination of GJEPC’s strategic engagements, beginning with its endorsement of the Luanda Accord in June 2025, followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during the second high-level meeting of the Accord in Cape Town in February 2026. Such moves underscore GJEPC's unwavering commitment to collaborative efforts within the natural diamond industry. India stands as a critical pillar in the global natural diamond supply chain, particularly renowned for its extensive cutting and polishing operations. An estimated 90 percent of the world's diamonds by volume are processed in India, with Surat, Gujarat, being a prominent center for this activity.
The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council actively champions India's position in the global jewelry trade through various initiatives, including trade promotion, industry development, and international collaborations. GJEPC's decision to join the NDC is timely, as it further solidifies industry unity at a juncture when consistent messaging, informed consumer choices, and sustained market promotion are paramount to ensuring the enduring appeal and demand for natural diamonds. This strategic alliance is poised to amplify the industry’s collective voice, celebrating the inherent qualities and emotional value of natural diamonds.
Amber Pepper, CEO of the Natural Diamond Council, expressed immense enthusiasm regarding GJEPC's membership, viewing it as a new and impactful chapter in their long-standing relationship. Pepper emphasized India's crucial role in the diamond value chain and reiterated the shared dedication to driving effective marketing campaigns, enhancing consumer knowledge, and promoting the distinctiveness and growth of natural diamonds. This joint effort is intended to inspire consumers globally and reinforce the lasting significance of natural diamonds.
Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of supporting NDC’s global efforts in marketing natural diamonds. He highlighted the necessity of engaging modern consumers through compelling narratives, inspiration, and education. This aligned vision led GJEPC to join the NDC, committing both strategic insights and financial contributions to the Council's long-term objectives and expansion. This collaboration is designed to strengthen confidence among consumers and support the future prosperity of the natural diamond category.
