NEW ORLEANS, LA — M.S. Rau, a venerable institution celebrated for its exceptional curation of fine art, antique masterpieces, and distinguished jewelry, has secured a long-term lease for an impressive new gallery space in the upscale mountain town of Aspen, Colorado. The grand opening is slated for January 2026, within the historic Aspen Block Building, situated prominently at 307 S. Galena Street.
This strategic expansion represents M.S. Rau's inaugural year-round secondary location since its inception in 1912. The gallery, headquartered in New Orleans' iconic French Quarter, is renowned for its diverse collection that includes works by artistic luminaries such as Renoir, Picasso, and Magritte, alongside luxurious objets d'art and jewelry from esteemed houses like Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Fabergé, and Cartier.
The new Aspen gallery will span two levels, encompassing over 2,200 square feet within the charming Victorian brick structure. Its prime location in Aspen's Commercial Core district places it amidst premier retail and dining establishments, including Prada and Paradise Bakery, ensuring high visibility and accessibility for discerning patrons.
Andrew Fields, President of M.S. Rau and an Aspen resident, expressed enthusiasm for the venture. He highlighted the success of a previous pop-up exhibition in downtown Aspen as a catalyst for establishing a permanent foothold. Fields noted, "Aspen boasts a thriving art scene and consistently attracts collectors of refined taste from across the globe throughout the year. We are committed to becoming a lasting fixture within this vibrant community."
The Aspen gallery plans to host exclusive on-site events and curated exhibitions, carefully aligning with the city's celebrated cultural calendar and engaging its dynamic community. M.S. Rau, under the leadership of third-generation owner Bill Rau, continues its global quest for exceptional pieces, enriching both private and public collections worldwide from its extensive 40,000-square-foot flagship gallery.
This strategic expansion underscores M.S. Rau's dedication to broadening its reach and offering its unparalleled collection to new and existing clients in key luxury markets. The move into Aspen reinforces the gallery's status as a leader in the global art and antiques trade, promising to enhance Aspen's already distinguished cultural offerings with its museum-quality presentations.
