Hublot and Samuel Ross Unveil the Big Bang Unico SR_A Chronograph

January 20

Swiss watchmaker Hublot and renowned British designer Samuel Ross have reignited their partnership to present the striking Big Bang Unico SR_A. This exclusive collection, limited to just 200 pieces, reimagines the iconic Big Bang Unico with Ross's signature industrial design philosophy. Unlike previous tourbillon iterations, this new model adopts a subtle monochromatic color scheme and incorporates meticulously crafted finishes, reflecting Ross's expertise in industrial aesthetics.

The foundation of this timepiece lies in Hublot's Big Bang Unico series, specifically engineered to highlight the brand's in-house Unico chronograph movement, featuring a distinct skeletonized dial. Building on the original Big Bang's design language, such as its layered construction and characteristic H-shaped bezel screws, the Unico line introduced ergonomic rounded pushers and a convenient One-Click strap system. Ross's influence extends to the watch's robust 42mm black high-tech ceramic casing, which boasts a 100-meter water resistance and a satin-brushed surface, enhanced by black-plated titanium screws for an even more industrial appearance.

The design continues into the watch's face, where the matte black skeletonized dial proudly displays key components of the Unico movement, including the column wheel positioned prominently at 6 o'clock. Traditional Arabic numerals have been replaced with luminous round markers, complementing the openworked hands with their rounded tips, a subtle yet significant detail from Ross. A standout feature is the black rubber strap, which incorporates a unique honeycomb pattern, further emphasizing the industrial character. The watch's rear offers a glimpse into the 354-part HUB1280 Unico flyback chronograph movement, complete with an openworked, black-plated rotor. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, this movement ensures a substantial 72-hour power reserve. With a price point of CHF 25,900 / EUR 30,600, the Big Bang Unico SR_A offers a more accessible entry into this designer collaboration compared to its highly limited tourbillon predecessors.

This collaboration exemplifies the harmonious blend of haute horlogerie and contemporary design, showcasing how tradition can be invigorated through modern artistic vision. It celebrates innovation, precision, and the courage to redefine luxury, inspiring us to embrace new perspectives and appreciate the artistry found in both the functional and the aesthetic.
