Habring² and SJX Collaborate on Exclusive Chrono-Felix Medicus Watches
A remarkable alliance between the esteemed independent watchmaker Habring² and the respected horology platform SJX Watches has culminated in the creation of the Chrono-Felix Medicus. This distinctive series of monopusher chronographs, conceptualized through the insights of a collective of medical professionals and watch aficionados, beautifully marries historical aesthetics with cutting-edge mechanical ingenuity. Each timepiece is a testament to bespoke craftsmanship, offering a unique blend of functionality and style, while also contributing to a noble cause by supporting pediatric medical charities.
The Unveiling of the Chrono-Felix Medicus: A Fusion of Horology and Healthcare
The journey to the Chrono-Felix Medicus began with a visionary request from a dedicated group of physicians, who, already admirers and owners of the initial Habring² x SJX collaboration, sought a specialized "doctor's watch." Their desire was for a timepiece equipped with scales crucial for medical diagnostics: pulsometer and respiration. Responding to this unique challenge, Habring², known for its meticulous Austrian watchmaking, partnered with SJX Watches, a leading voice in horological media, to transform this concept into a tangible reality.
Richard Habring, the innovative mind behind Habring², collaborated closely with SJX to evolve the existing Chrono-Felix model. The foundation, the compact 38.5mm Chrono-Felix monopusher chronograph, was subtly re-engineered. Key modifications include a flattened, single-step bezel and a gracefully curved box-shaped sapphire crystal, imbuing the watch with a timeless 1940s chronograph allure, reminiscent of iconic vintage pieces like the Patek ref. 130. Measuring a slender 11.2mm in height, the case features a sapphire caseback and a singular chronograph pusher elegantly positioned at 2 o'clock, maintaining a water resistance of 30 meters.
The dial of the Chrono-Felix Medicus is where its true medical vocation shines, adopting a sophisticated multi-scale layout. An outer, subtly recessed and snailed flange hosts a precise pulsometer scale. Adjacent to this, a respiration scale spans from 5 to 25. Adding a touch of traditional chronographic functionality, the central dial showcases an attractive snailed tachymeter scale, designed for measuring average speeds. A notable technical departure from standard Habring² A11C calibre-based watches is the inclusion of a single 30-minute chronograph sub-dial, unconventionally placed at 12 o'clock, marking an unprecedented configuration for the brand.
The collaboration introduces two distinct aesthetic renditions of the Chrono-Felix Medicus. The first variant exudes classic elegance with a brushed steel case, complemented by a serene silver dial, blued hands, applied markers, and a blue leather strap. This version epitomizes discreet vintage charm. The second edition offers a bolder statement with a sandblasted steel case, designed to echo the distinct appearance of vintage chrome-plated timepieces. Paired with a sophisticated grey dial and rose gold-plated accents, this version presents a compelling fusion of retro inspiration, contemporary techniques, and a refined technical aesthetic, making it a standout choice for many connoisseurs. Both versions are delivered on leather straps with steel pin buckles that harmoniously match their respective case finishes.
At the heart of these timepieces lies the in-house Habring² A11C-H0 calibre, visible through the sapphire caseback. This hand-wound monopusher chronograph movement, inspired by the Valjoux 7750 architecture but significantly enhanced by Richard Habring, features in-house or independently sourced components. With a 4Hz frequency and a 48-hour power reserve, the movement boasts an antimagnetic escapement with a Carl Haas balance hairspring, fine tangential screw adjustment, and KIF shock protection. Its elaborate hand-finishing includes polished edges, perlage, and steel chronograph components meticulously finished by independent watchmaker Pöhlmann-Bresan.
Production of the Habring² x SJX Chrono-Felix Medicus is limited to 25 pieces per style. Deliveries are projected between May and July 2026. These exclusive watches are available for purchase directly from SJX Watches and Shellman in Tokyo, priced at EUR 7,750 (excluding taxes), with a 40% deposit required upon order. Significantly, EUR 700 from the sale of each watch will be equally divided and donated to children's medical charities in Singapore and Austria, underscoring a commitment to philanthropic endeavors alongside horological innovation.
This collaboration represents more than just the launch of a new watch; it is a profound narrative of passion, precision, and purpose. The Chrono-Felix Medicus stands as a symbol of how shared vision and expertise can transcend traditional boundaries, creating not only objects of beauty and utility but also instruments of positive change. It reminds us that at the intersection of diverse disciplines—be it the art of watchmaking or the science of medicine—innovation flourishes, often yielding results that benefit society at large. The dedication to supporting children's medical charities adds a heartwarming dimension, illustrating that true luxury can also encompass meaningful impact.
