Recognizing Enduring Impact: Gary Wroe's Prestigious 2025 NAJ Chair's Award

The UK's National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) has bestowed its distinguished 2025 Chair's Award upon Gary Wroe, acknowledging his remarkable and consistent contributions to the nation's jewellery sector. This accolade, generously supported once again by Mastermelt Ltd, was presented during the annual Benevolent Society Christmas Ball, hosted at Birmingham's Grand Hotel on December 4, 2025. This marks the fifth year of the NAJ Chair's Award, which is dedicated to honoring individuals or businesses whose commitment, influence, and transformative efforts have significantly shaped the trade.

A Distinguished Career Defined by Leadership and Philanthropy

Gary Wroe stands out as a pivotal figure in British jewellery manufacturing, having dedicated more than forty years to the field. He is widely respected across the industry for his exemplary leadership, extensive voluntary work, and passionate commitment to mentoring the next generation of jewellers. His journey began at the age of 16 through a Youth Training Scheme with the British Jewellers' Association (now the NAJ). His exceptional drive propelled him to become Production Manager at Hockley Mint by 25, and later, at just 36, he assumed the role of Managing Director. Under his guidance, Hockley Mint gained recognition for its ethical practices, dedication to sustainability, and pioneering adoption of employee ownership.

Wroe's Unwavering Voluntary Service to the Jewellery Community

Beyond his considerable commercial achievements, Gary has devoted an extraordinary amount of time to voluntary service within the sector. He has held numerous critical positions essential to the governance, integrity, and future growth of the UK jewellery trade. These roles include serving as a Director of the British Allied Trades Federation, a Trustee of the Benevolent Society, a Warden of the Birmingham Assay Office, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and a member of the British Hallmarking Council. Furthermore, he has served as both Chair and President of the NAJ, as well as the British Jewellers' Association.

Upon receiving the award, Gary Wroe expressed his deep gratitude: "I am profoundly honored to accept the NAJ Chair’s Award. This industry has enriched my life immensely since I first entered a workshop at 16. Giving back, whether through educating young jewellers or supporting our institutions and the wider trade, has been among the greatest privileges of my career. I am truly thankful to the Association, to my colleagues, and to the vibrant trade that makes our sector so exceptional."

Commemorating a Century of Journalistic Excellence: Retail Jeweller Magazine

The ceremony also featured a special tribute to Retail Jeweller magazine, marking its 100th anniversary. Originating as a modest monthly bulletin published by the British Jewellers' Association, the publication has evolved into one of the trade’s most influential voices. It has consistently promoted excellence, delivered credible reporting, and supported generations of jewellery professionals. The NAJ presented Retail Jeweller with a commemorative award, recognizing its century-long dedication to the industry.
