Gagà Laboratorio Unveils Lightweight Labormatic Superleggero Titanium Watch

August 31

Gagà Laboratorio, an innovative spin-off from the established Italian luxury watchmaker Gagà Milano, has introduced its latest creation, the Labormatic Superleggero. Launched recently during the prestigious Geneva Watch Days, this timepiece embodies the brand's unique mechanical ethos, fused with a design language reminiscent of 1950s Italian industrial aesthetics. The new model is notable for its lightweight construction, achieved through the use of grade 5 titanium, reflecting Italy's rich heritage in advanced lightweight engineering, particularly seen in automotive and racing sectors. This limited edition of 100 pieces offers a fresh, sporty interpretation of the Labormatic line, showcasing a distinctive digital hour display and a sophisticated La Joux-Perret automatic movement.

Introducing the Gagà Laboratorio Labormatic Superleggero: A Fusion of Italian Design and Swiss Engineering

The visionary force behind the Labormatic series is Mo Coppoletta, a renowned tattoo artist who, alongside founder Ruben Tomella, has shaped Gagà Laboratorio's distinct identity. The freshly unveiled Labormatic Superleggero maintains the bold 42mm by 13.3mm case architecture, characterized by its dramatically flared lugs, crown positioned at 12 o'clock, and a generously proportioned bezel. However, the use of a matte sandblasted titanium finish imbues this iteration with a decidedly more athletic and modern appeal. To accentuate the unique contours of the stepped lugs, the upper surfaces are sandblasted, contrasting with the brushed finish of the lower lugs that seamlessly integrate with the case middle. A grey cabochon adorns the crown, its rounded rivets harmonizing with the overall grey hue of the titanium case.

While the fundamental layout of the time indications remains consistent, the dial of the Superleggero has been re-imagined with an open-worked design. Four gracefully arched windows, in addition to a smaller aperture for the digital hours at noon, are protected by intricate grilles and feature laser-engraved sapphire crystals. These reveal glimpses of the hour disc, which now showcases vibrant yellow numerals. Notably, the even numbers are presented against a striking black-and-white dotted backdrop, with each numeral playfully flanked by a smaller version on its left and the preceding numeral on its right. The minutes are indicated on a greyish-blue disc, animated by a rotating yellow hand, while a matte grey cap at the center fluidly displays the running seconds.

Turning the watch over, a porthole on the caseback provides a captivating view of the automatic G-100 La Joux-Perret movement. This intricate mechanism features a specially customized, open-worked rotor finished with a charcoal coating, proudly bearing the Gagà Laboratorio insignia. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement ensures a robust power reserve of 68 hours.

The Labormatic Superleggero is elegantly complemented by a grey technical elastic fabric strap, offering both comfort and a sporty aesthetic. This exclusive timepiece is a limited edition of only 100 pieces, priced at CHF 4,700 (excluding VAT). It will be accessible for purchase online via the brand's official website, gagalaboratorio.com, and through a carefully selected network of retail partners.

This release from Gagà Laboratorio not only showcases a commitment to innovative design but also a thoughtful integration of high-performance materials. The Labormatic Superleggero represents a harmonious blend of Italian design flair and Swiss watchmaking precision, offering collectors a distinctive and lightweight timepiece that stands out in the contemporary watch market. The emphasis on grade 5 titanium speaks to a broader trend in luxury watchmaking towards enhanced wearability and a sporty yet refined aesthetic, making this limited edition particularly appealing to those who appreciate both form and function.
