Eska Unveils New Racing Chronograph in Light Collection, Offering Accessible Automatic Chronographs Under 500 Euros

December 08

Eska Watches, originally established in 1918 in Granges, Switzerland, experienced a resurgence in 2024 through the vision of Christophe Chevreton and Sinicha Knezevic. The revival commenced with the Amphibian 250 dive watch and the Heritage Chronograph, both crafted in France, skillfully blending historical design elements with contemporary manufacturing. These initial releases successfully re-established the brand's identity, laying the groundwork for future innovations.

Building on this foundation, Eska has now unveiled the Racing Chronograph, a prominent addition to its fresh Light collection. This series is conceptualized around vivid hues, economic accessibility, and suitability for everyday use. The launch event strategically coincided with Lyon's renowned Fête des Lumières, underscoring the Racing Chronograph's role in reflecting the brand's youthful spirit and honoring the founders' French roots. The timepiece is presented in a robust 41mm 316L stainless steel casing, measuring 12.8mm in thickness (or 14.9mm including the sapphire crystal). Its screw-down caseback is elegantly adorned with an engraving of Lyon's skyline, symbolizing Eska's contemporary home and its commitment to the city's rich horological heritage. The design of the case, pushers, and fluted crown offers a sense of familiarity and reassurance. Furthermore, the watch boasts a water resistance of 50 meters, enhancing its practicality.

The Racing Chronograph features a bi-compax dial arrangement and is available in two distinct variations: the 'Racing Azur' and the 'Racing Sunset'. The 'Racing Azur' showcases a blue dial with a vertical brushed finish, complemented by white tracks and a striking red central chronograph hand. Conversely, the 'Racing Sunset' presents a matte salmon dial, accented with blue minute tracks, white indices, and a contrasting blue chronograph hand. The 'Sunset' variant incorporates italic numerals for a classic appeal, while the 'Azur' utilizes baton indices with prominent numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock. Both versions maintain a retro aesthetic, despite their differing personalities, with a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock and a small seconds display at 9 o'clock. Powering these new models is the automatic SL4617 chronograph movement, a component produced by Liaoning Peacock Watch Co. in China, serving as a functional counterpart to the Valjoux 7750. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it offers a 45-hour power reserve. This movement choice aligns with Eska's commitment to affordability, with the watches being assembled in France. Each Racing Chronograph is paired with a stitched leather strap and comes with a travel pouch, offering excellent value at a price of EUR 408 before taxes.

The introduction of the Eska Racing Chronograph exemplifies the brand's dedication to making sophisticated watchmaking accessible to a wider audience. By combining a rich heritage with modern design and thoughtful pricing, Eska is not merely selling timepieces but also inviting enthusiasts to participate in a vibrant story of rebirth and innovation. This collection serves as a testament to the belief that quality and style should not be exclusive, offering a pathway for more individuals to experience the joy and precision of a finely crafted automatic chronograph. It reinforces the idea that true value lies in the blend of tradition, contemporary relevance, and unwavering passion for horology.
