The Dries Van Noten Foundation Debuts in Venice with "The Only True Protest is Beauty" Exhibition, Featuring Codognato Jewelry
The Dries Van Noten Foundation in Venice is set to host its inaugural exhibition, titled "The Only True Protest is Beauty," from April 25 to October 4, 2026. Curated by Dries Van Noten in collaboration with Geert Bruloot, this groundbreaking exhibition delves into the profound connection between craftsmanship and emotional expression. It thoughtfully integrates various disciplines, including fashion, jewelry, art, design, photography, glasswork, ceramics, and material experimentation, all united by a shared exploration of beauty's power to defy conventions and dogmatic views. The exhibition unfolds across 20 distinct rooms within the magnificent Palazzo Pisani Moretta, where over 200 works engage in a dynamic conversation with the palace's architecture, history, and decorative elements, creating a narrative guided by intuition rather than strict chronological order. Esteemed archival pieces from renowned fashion houses are displayed alongside contemporary textile innovations, emphasizing the enduring significance of textiles as a medium for cultural commentary and artistic statements. Collectible art and design objects stand in harmonious juxtaposition with experimental works from independent designers and artists represented by international galleries, pioneering new frontiers in sensory storytelling and material exploration.
A notable highlight of the exhibition is the exclusive participation of Maison Codognato, the only jeweler to be featured. The House will unveil 15 meticulously chosen pieces, personally selected by Dries Van Noten, that beautifully balance heritage and contemporary innovation. These pieces include both items from the House's esteemed collectors and clients, as well as new creations specifically designed for this event, all reflecting Codognato's distinctive aesthetic, which remains deeply rooted in tradition while embracing modern artistic expression. Some creations reimagine iconic designs from past generations of artisans, while others introduce fresh interpretations of the House's symbolic and sculptural style. These new works are the result of a collaborative design effort within the Codognato family, ensuring the continuation of its spirit while pushing creative boundaries. Seven of these remarkable pieces will also be available for purchase, offering visitors a unique opportunity to acquire a part of this artistic legacy.
This exhibition not only marks a significant cultural event for Venice but also reaffirms Codognato's prominent position in the world of artistic jewelry. Their involvement underscores the international recognition of their unique approach, where symbolism, history, and exceptional craftsmanship converge to create timeless beauty. The collaborative spirit and dedication to artistic excellence demonstrated by both the Dries Van Noten Foundation and Maison Codognato serve as an inspiring testament to the power of creative partnerships. It highlights how the convergence of diverse artistic expressions can enrich cultural landscapes and offer new perspectives on beauty's capacity to inspire and provoke thought, celebrating the enduring legacy of Venetian artistry and design.
