De Bethune Unveils Limited Edition DB27 Night Hawk for EsperLuxe
De Bethune's esteemed DB27 collection has consistently showcased the independent brand's dedication to refined horology. For over a decade, this series, starting with the 2012 Titan Hawk and evolving through subsequent versions and special editions like the JPS and green dial variants, has been celebrated for its understated yet technically advanced watchmaking. Key features have always included a lightweight titanium construction, the brand's signature patented floating lugs, and the reliable in-house AUTOV2 movement, all presented in a user-friendly format.
A notable addition to this collection is the new DB27 "Night Hawk," a collaborative creation with EsperLuxe, a prominent independent watch retailer based in Sudbury, Massachusetts. This special edition preserves the fundamental design principles of the DB27 while introducing a distinctly customized dial. The 43mm case, a slender 9mm thick, is meticulously fashioned from Grade 5 titanium, featuring a blend of polished and brushed surfaces. Upholding De Bethune's distinctive identity, the watch incorporates patented floating lugs, presented here as short, flame-blued titanium components with a matte finish. These articulated lugs are integral to the wearing experience, conforming effortlessly to the wrist. The case middle is further enhanced with the brand’s characteristic microlight pattern. Dual AR-coated sapphire crystals safeguard the dial and reveal the intricate movement, while water resistance is maintained at 30 meters.
The dial, an exclusive design by EsperLuxe, truly sets the "Night Hawk" apart from its predecessors. This iteration marks the debut of De Bethune’s "Starry Sky" motif in flame-blued titanium within the DB27 collection. This celestial display precisely charts the night sky as it appeared on the exact date and at the location of EsperLuxe's establishment in 2021. Encircling this poetic central disc is a classic chapter ring adorned with Roman numerals, complemented by a peripheral minutes track featuring Arabic numerals. The harmonious blend of the artistic center and the structured outer dial is flawlessly executed, with mirror-polished, two-tone (blued with silvered tips) hour and minute hands, alongside a central seconds hand, completing the sophisticated display. The watch is powered by the familiar AUTOV2 calibre, visible through the sapphire caseback. This in-house automatic movement comprises 217 components and 29 jewels, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and providing a substantial 60-hour power reserve. It integrates several proprietary technical innovations, such as a titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts for optimized inertia and thermal stability, and the brand’s patented balance spring with a flat terminal curve. The oscillating weight, crafted from titanium and tungsten, ensures efficient winding and seamlessly integrates with the movement's overall aesthetic. The De Bethune DB27 Night Hawk for EsperLuxe is presented on a blue fabric strap, secured by a titanium pin buckle, with an additional bespoke strap included. This exclusive timepiece is limited to 10 pieces, plus one prototype, and is priced at USD 70,000, available through EsperLuxe's physical and online boutiques.
This collaboration between De Bethune and EsperLuxe epitomizes the fusion of innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship, celebrating both heritage and individuality in watchmaking. The "Night Hawk" is not merely a timekeeping device but a wearable piece of art, inviting its owner to connect with the cosmos and appreciate the intricate dance of precision engineering and aesthetic beauty. Such creations inspire a deeper appreciation for the artistry and dedication inherent in independent watchmaking, encouraging a pursuit of excellence and a profound understanding of time's boundless journey.
