Czapek Unveils Quai des Bergues "Sursum Corda" and New Enamel Models

December 11

Czapek, a brand with a rich history, is commemorating significant milestones: the 180th anniversary of François Czapek's original Genevan watchmaking venture and the 10th anniversary of the brand's resurgence. The Quai des Bergues "Sursum Corda" marks the conclusion of a series of celebratory timepieces, following the Antarctique Tourbillon, Antarctique Plique-à-Jour, and Time Jumper. This exclusive release, limited to just 10 pieces, is crafted from rose gold and features a pristine white Grand Feu enamel dial. Alongside this special edition, the brand introduces two new regular production models, the Quai des Bergues No. 33 and No. 25, both incorporating a new 40.5mm case diameter, which is set to become the standard for this distinguished collection.

The Quai des Bergues holds a special place in the brand's narrative, having been instrumental in Czapek's rebirth in 2015. Its design harks back to a mid-19th-century Czapek & Cie pocket watch, featuring a distinct small seconds sub-dial and a combined day-of-the-week and power reserve indicator. Initially introduced in a 42.5mm case with a Grand Feu enamel dial and a proprietary manual-winding movement, the collection later expanded to include a more compact 38.5mm size in 2020 and a 40.5mm option in 2023. The 40.5mm dimension is now officially adopted for all future Quai des Bergues timepieces, signifying a strategic evolution for the line.

The anniversary "Sursum Corda" model stands out with its rose gold casing and impeccable white Grand Feu enamel dial. It incorporates subtle details like a hidden "Sursum Corda" inscription that becomes visible at certain angles, Czapek's signature within the small seconds counter, and a laser-engraved 10/180 anniversary mark. This Latin phrase, meaning "lift up your hearts," was a rallying cry for Czapek's CEO during the brand's early challenges. The new No. 33 (rose gold) and No. 25 (stainless steel) regular production models also feature Grand Feu enamel dials, offering customization options for hands and secret dial engravings. All three watches are powered by the enhanced calibre SXH1, a proprietary manual-winding movement from Chronode, boasting a 7-day power reserve and a blend of traditional and contemporary haute horlogerie finishes. These timepieces are complemented by elegant alligator straps, reflecting the brand's commitment to sophistication and craftsmanship. The pricing varies across the limited and regular editions, reflecting their exclusivity and materials.

The launch of these new Quai des Bergues models underscores Czapek's enduring legacy and forward-thinking vision. By honoring its historical roots while embracing innovation in design and movement, the brand inspires a renewed appreciation for meticulous watchmaking. These exquisite timepieces serve as a testament to perseverance and artistic excellence, reminding us that true craftsmanship can bridge centuries, elevating the spirit with every tick.
