CIBJO President Cavalieri Honored with Prestigious Italian Knighthood

Gaetano Cavalieri, the current head of CIBJO, has recently been bestowed with the distinguished title of Grande Ufficiale, marking the second-highest honor within Italy's most significant order of merit, the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. This esteemed accolade, established in 1951, is granted to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in areas such as scientific research, artistic endeavors, economic development, public administration, and philanthropic initiatives, as well as for extensive and notable service in both civilian and military capacities.

Dr. Cavalieri's elevation to Grande Ufficiale, following his prior recognition as a Commendatore, was officially announced in the Italian Government Gazette on April 2, 2026. This prestigious award was conferred through a presidential decree, underscoring his significant impact and dedication. Throughout his career, Dr. Cavalieri, who assumed the presidency of CIBJO in 2001, has fulfilled numerous pivotal roles within and outside Italy. His past responsibilities include serving as President of the Italian Federation of Gold, Silver, and Jewellery Wholesalers, acting as a consultant to the Italian Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and leading the International Relations Office of Confcommercio, the Italian General Trade Organization. Additionally, he has been a delegate to the Commission of Foreign Trade, specializing in luxury goods, an Italian delegate to the World Trade Organization, and a board member for both Mondimpresa SCPA and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade and Commerce.
