Bovet Unveils the Récital 32: A Fusion of True GMT Functionality and Exquisite Flying Tourbillon
Bovet, a name synonymous with intricate horological mechanisms and luxurious artistry, has once again pushed the boundaries of watchmaking with its latest offering. The Récital 32, hailed as the brand's inaugural "true GMT," distinguishes itself with a groundbreaking, intuitive pusher for adjusting the second time zone. However, true to Bovet's exceptional style, this timepiece doesn't merely offer a GMT function; it is accompanied by a breathtaking flying tourbillon. This marvel is housed within a sleek 42mm casing, featuring a modern open-worked dial that provides a glimpse into the in-house movement, enabling an impressive 10-day power reserve.
Bovet Récital 32: A New Era in Travel Timekeeping
Pascal Raffy, a visionary in the realm of high complications, has once again demonstrated Bovet's mastery of sophisticated travel watches. Building upon previous successes like the Récital 27 with its three time zones, and the monumental Récital 28, which, in 2024, revolutionized Daylight Saving Time (DST) functionality globally, the Récital 32 enters the stage as a more compact yet equally impressive offering. While the Récital 30 streamlined the world time and DST features into a 42mm case, the new Récital 32 retains this elegant dimension while introducing a fresh approach to GMT.
The Récital 32 distinguishes itself as a "true GMT" or a "traveller's GMT." Unlike traditional designs where the local hour hand is independently adjusted, Bovet engineers have devised a more ingenious system. Local time is set using the elegant sapphire cabochon crown, while a dedicated pusher on the left side of the case allows the wearer to advance the second time zone indicator in precise hourly increments. This innovative design offers several advantages: it significantly speeds up time adjustments, prevents accidental alterations to the local time, and minimizes wear and tear on the winding stem, enhancing the longevity and reliability of the mechanism.
Visually, the timepiece is a spectacle. The off-centered sub-dial at the 12 o'clock position prominently displays both local and home time. Local time is elegantly shown on a blue lacquered outer track, while a white lacquered ring with a 24-hour scale denotes the second time zone. A beautifully hand-painted day/night indicator occupies the center of this sub-dial, adding an artistic touch.
The open-worked dial is a window into the watch's mechanical heart. Enthusiasts can admire the elevated flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock, a cylindrical roller at 9 o'clock indicating the extensive 10-day power reserve, and the meticulously hand-finished gear train, plates, and bridges. To accommodate the unique elevation of the tourbillon and ensure unobstructed viewing from every angle, the dial is protected by a panoramic box sapphire crystal. The craftsmanship extends to the hand-engraved plates and bridges, which undergo 15 hours of meticulous hand-beveling and mirror-polishing. The caseback reveals the stunning new étoiles carées, or square star motif, also hand-engraved on the plates.
As a highly vertically integrated manufacture, Bovet produces over 95% of its watch components in-house, including hairsprings. The 375-part manual-winding movement is a testament to this self-sufficiency. For a manual-winding watch with a 10-day power reserve from a single mainspring barrel, winding typically requires numerous crown rotations. Bovet's patented miniature 3D spherical differential ingeniously addresses this by duplicating each winding action, thereby reducing the winding time and protecting the gear train from undue stress.
The Récital 32 is offered in two exquisite materials: polished titanium and 18k red gold, each available in three distinct color combinations. Reflecting the contemporary aesthetic of its open-worked dial, the watch is paired with a premium rubber strap, ensuring both comfort and style. Each metal variant is limited to just 60 numbered pieces, making these timepieces highly exclusive.
The titanium version of the Récital 32 is priced at CHF 150,000, while the red gold model commands CHF 175,000.
The Bovet Récital 32 represents a significant advancement in the luxury watch sector, demonstrating how traditional complications can be re-imagined with contemporary design and innovative functionality. It caters to the discerning traveler and connoisseur who values both mechanical prowess and artistic expression. The intuitive GMT setting mechanism, combined with the visual splendor of the flying tourbillon and the extended power reserve, positions this timepiece as a standout in high-end horology. It challenges conventional notions of watch design and utility, offering a glimpse into the future of sophisticated timekeeping.
