The initial Marinagraph was conceived as a functional instrument that could have been aboard the Columbia during the iconic 1958 America's Cup, designed to withstand the rigorous demands of pre-race timing. This fictional heritage is seamlessly carried into the new models. A key innovation is the patented 10-minute retrograde countdown mechanism, which distinguishes itself by disengaging and freezing at zero, while the main chronograph seconds hand continues its sweep. This thoughtful design prevents any visual confusion as the starting gun fires, ensuring absolute clarity for competitive sailors. The activation of this function is managed by a distinct red, ribbed anodized aluminum monopusher located on the left side of the case at 9 o’clock, a deliberate tribute to the aluminum mast of the Columbia. This unique layout, often referred to as “destro,” positions the monopusher for optimal use by the thumb, considered the most efficient digit for chronograph activation, enhancing both ergonomics and the watch's distinctive character.

This automatic monopusher chronograph movement is a heavily modified and reoriented version of the Sellita-based architecture, which itself traces its roots back to the venerable Valjoux 7750.
