Shifting to a Weekend-Inclusive Schedule: Responding to Exhibitor Preferences

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) has announced a revised scheduling pattern for its annual GemFair Tucson, effective from 2027 through 2029. This decision comes after a thorough survey of exhibitors, who expressed a strong preference for maintaining the show's five-day duration. The new format will see the GemFair commencing on a Sunday and concluding on a Thursday, a change designed to better serve a wider audience. This weekend-inclusive approach is expected to draw in more attendees who find weekend access more convenient for their shopping needs.

Insights from Leadership: Strategic Objectives Behind the Calendar Change

Bruce Bridges, President of the AGTA Board, highlighted the success of the five-day format in previous years, noting a significant 7% increase in buyer attendance in 2026 compared to 2025. He emphasized that the overwhelming majority of exhibitors surveyed supported retaining the five-day structure. The strategic shift to a Sunday-Thursday schedule was primarily driven by the goal of attracting over 150 companies that did not participate in 2026, many of whom traditionally favored weekend exhibition dates. John W. Ford, Sr., AGTA's CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the fixed schedule, which will allow participants to plan their calendars and travel arrangements well in advance.

Key Events and Programming: Enhancing the GemFair Experience

Beyond the core exhibition days, the GemFair Tucson will continue to host its signature events. The 'Toast to Tucson Party' is slated for the opening Sunday, setting a festive tone for the week. Additionally, the event will feature two days of educational seminars, with specific dates to be confirmed, providing valuable insights and learning opportunities for industry professionals. A highlight of the week will also be the 'Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards Gala,' an evening dedicated to recognizing excellence and innovation in gem and jewelry design.

Future Dates Revealed: Plan Your Participation for 2027-2029

For those planning to attend or exhibit at the AGTA GemFair Tucson, the precise dates for the upcoming three years have been made public. In 2027, the fair will run from Sunday, January 31, to Thursday, February 4. The following year, 2028, will see the event held from Sunday, January 30, to Thursday, February 3. Finally, in 2029, the GemFair is scheduled from Sunday, January 28, to Thursday, February 1. This clear articulation of dates aims to facilitate seamless planning for all stakeholders involved.
